Frankly, I'm baffled by the decision. I'm in the minority when it comes to liking the Daredevil film. Most comic fans hated it. You'd think after that reaction to Daredevil, DC would would want to stay far away from Affleck, especially considering the similarities the characters of Daredevil and Batman share.

And I don't see Affleck pulling off Batman, personally. Batman is supposed to strike fear into his enemies. I can't see Affleck striking fear into anyone. But I've been proven wrong with roles I thought sounded bad before, so I'm not gonna write him off completely until I see it.

I think I'm going to be sick. Sick I was looking forward to the movie. Now I doubt I'll even bother to watch it. I'm definitely not going to pay Movie Theater prices to go see it.

i had to check the calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1st...

'Man of Steel' (which i loved) is potentially a stand alone film for me now.

Are you sure? Google it. There's been no announcement, just a campaign by some to have him cast in the role.

I dunno. In recent years Affleck has shown he has the chops to be a pretty fair Bats. I mean, ignore a lot of his early "money grabbing" work, post Good will Hunting, and the guy has put together a pretty decent resume.

I mean....noone liked Michael keaton or Christian Bale as batman either when they were first announced...and look now.

Don't see how he could be worse than Clooney or Whale Kilmer.

They might as well, maybe they could bring in Kardashian as poison Ivy. Or Jack Black as Penguin?

I hope this lasts as long as the John Travolta/Bats announcement in the 90's.

Totally agree with this. People hated on Michael Keaton as Batman, Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man. Keaton was primarily known as a funny man, Evans had so perfectly nailed his role as Johnny Storm that nobody thought he could portray the serious-minded Cap (not to mention his youngish-looks), and Downey, Jr....well...even though he had some great performances in films like Chaplain and Zodiac, he was still living with the stigma of being Hollywood's token recovering drug addict.

What fans don't give these guys credit for (including Affleck), is that they are ACTORS. They ACT. That's what they do. Usually that means being able to portray a variety of different emotions through a variety of different types of characters. So we shouldn't have been surprised when Keaton didn't act like Mr. Mom as Batman, or Evans didn't act like Johnny Storm as Captain America, and Downey Jr., well, he wasn't on drugs when he did Iron Man.

People are judging Affleck on a few bad movies he did over ten years ago. If you look at his casting as Batman through the prism of what he's done in the last five or seven years or so (both as an actor and a director), everyone should be elated. Stop automatically deciding the movie's gonna suck before a single frame has been shot.

There's also a little more to this casting choice than meets the eye. After the Supes/Batman movie was announced, the big question was who would direct the inevitable Batman spin-off solo movie. Surely whoever directs would want a hand in casting and molding the character in anticipation of the upcoming spin off movie. Ben Affleck is Warner Brother's Golden Boy right now. If all goes well, you can bet Affleck will be directing himself in the Batman solo film.

Keaton was questionable, sure. But Bale was perfect for the role after seeing him in Equilibrium. He practically was Batman in that film, minus the costume and utility belt.

my initial reaction stands... i'm still shocked.

i'm definitely witholding judgement until i see it with my own eyes. i don't think he deserved the statue for Argo, and i thought his DD was average / passable.

i haven't seen Runner Runner yet, but i've heard he's upping his game.

ultimately, i think it's possible Zack can EXTRACT a bad-@$$ performance from Mr. Affleck. i just hope that's what we all get... our bloody doors blown off.

LOL. WITHOUT FAIL...and I mean, every single time....an actor is announced on this website for a super hero or super villain role, the resounding reaction is that he or she is horrible. the movie is going to suck and may god have mercy on all of our soles.

What do you people want? Seriously.

No, that's why I pointed to Equilibrium as my indicator. Equilibrium came out a couple years before Batman Begins.

Pretty much all YouTube videos are throwing Affleck to the dogs. But I tend to agree with the views in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wA0cyqFYets

Sorry if this is a naughty no-no to post the link.

Wait a minute? They selected an actor? I thought the link said they selected Ben Affleck. As for what we want, well...someone who can actually act would be a good start. (I have yet to see a Ben Affleck movie that I actually liked.)

...And of course it doesn't help that every time I hear his name the first thing that comes to mind is "Quack, Quack"

EDIT: And just for the record, I always thought Robert Downey Jr. was the perfect person to cast as Tony Stark
