I'm finding mutli-store orders an interesting exercise.

Early afternoon on Thursday, August 29th I put in three new orders over 19 minutes*. I met the free shipping requirement at each store and each store has a minimum of 500 Heros and less than 8 combined Mortals and Villains each.

Order #1 - 38 comics, 3 cards

Order #2 - 8 comics, 13 cards

Order #3 - 15 comics, 13 cards

Six days later (with a three-day weekend in the middle), the status of the three is as follows:

Order #1 - Haven't heard a peep and still marked simply as SOLD.

Order #2 - Received a PM the day of order (Thursday) saying it would be in the mail the next day (Friday) and received it on Tuesday with everything perfect and some extra cards thrown in for fun! Thanks again Pawl's Attic!!

Order #3 - Received a PM the day of order (Thursday) saying they couldn't find one book (thankfully, non-essential to the order) and that a refund would be sent with an extra trading card I may appreciate. I received the package on Tuesday with a couple low-grade bonus comics and a cool card along with everything but the already notified missing issue. The refund wasn't sent, but it was only $1.95 and the bonus card made up for it in my mind, so I didn't push back on the seller.

I'll give the store from Order #1 until mid-afternoon tomorrow before I hit them with a status request.

*Which is why I do not get these "I need a multi-hour cart hold to make an order" complaints.

What happened with Order #1? Hopefully everything worked out.

Fantastic News! Hall of Heroes has now surpassed 600 Hero Ratings! I couldn't have done it without all of you and I will strive to maintain and improve my high standards. Which brings me to my next announcement - starting now, all shipments will come with tracking at no extra charge to you! I'm a little late to the party but as they say - better late than never. You spoke and I heard you loud and clear. Excelsior!

Order #1 - Got a PM from the store not too long after this post. They apologized for the delay and said they had been having trouble finding one of the books, but found it and the order would be on its way. And it was. Got it this past Monday, so everything wrapped up nicely with them.

Now onto Round 3.

(Yeah, I've been on a little spree trying to complete some runs lately.)

All orders were placed the morning of 9/11/13 over 8 minutes. All for relatively modest amounts (under $35). Only one store I've done business with before. Two stores have just over 100 heroes and no mortals or villains. Two stores have 1000+ heroes with a sprinkling of mortals and villains.

Order #1 - 17 comics

Order #2 - 10 comics

Order #3 - 20 comics

Order #4 - 25 comics (I'm a repeat customer here.)

A couple updates already after 24 hours.

Order #2 - Marked as shipped the same day.

Order #4 - Received a PM within 90 minutes of the order that three issues of the 25 were listed incorrectly (multiple series of the same name, although several years apart and distinctively different cover treatments) and they didn't actually have the three I wanted, confirmed I would like a refund and sent it. The rest of the order was packed and marked as shipped the same day.

Well Swifty, on the 16th I made 4 orders (1 from your store) 136 total comics.

I don't have the time to go through 4 stores and buy 136 comics in one sitting.

I buy them as I do other things at home or while shopping or while at the park with the kid. Frequently, I may not have connectivity and not be able to get back and finish the order so it gets dumped.

While it's not high on my priority list, a little more cart time would be appreciated....

Here's what I bought by the way...

Take a moment to consider things from the sellers point of view...

I have over 100,000 dollars of inventory dedicated to CCL. That's enough to pay for my 14 year old daughters college education, free and clear unless she get accepted to Brown University...

I also sell locally where I enjoy the face to face experience. Locally, I don't have to worry about getting screwed on a paypal chargeback or being threatened with negative feedback or threats to ship extra books for free all of which have happened to ME right here on CCL.

Did you ship those free comics? Because if you did I just found a new favorite store, lol
I hate people who threaten, I will take negative feedback any day over giving in to threats.

Thanks to the following sellers for helping me put together my complete run of Amazing Spider-man #1-700

ComicCastle
TreeHouse
Hall Of Heroes
Thundercron's Longbox
DrumCzar

Now for the sellers helping me finish my TMNT collection:

Hall Of Heroes

Three days later:

Order #1 - Still just marked as sold.

Order #2 - Marked as shipped and USPS confirms it's in transit.

Order #3 - Still just marked as sold.

Order #4 - Received on Friday the 13th with everything (other the the previously noted incorrect listing) looking great. Thanks!

I'm sorry, a week to ship an order? That's crazy. I start to get antsy if I take longer than a day to get something in the mail. It astounds me that some people take 3, 4, 7 days to send out an order. They can't be that busy, can they?

Looks like Store #4 is the way to go. Great communication, fast shipping. Who was it? They must be good, you say you are a repeat customer.

Got a PM today saying they sent it on Monday, just didn't notify me in any way.

Oh, and also that two books couldn't be found. One was was just a 50c book. The other was one of the more key ones to the purchase. Not expensive. Just unique. I know that there are some people that don't think this is a big deal (or the asinine idea that it's the buyers fault), but this happens too damn much on this site.

This was Comics MD. They are about 75 miles away from and in-state (to my office), thus the quick delivery.

It has nothing to do with it being a problem on "this site". This has been the norm long before the internet came along. I used to buy comics through the mail back in the 80's all the time. It was standard practice to list an alternate selection in your order just in case your primary pick was no longer available. Makes sense when you consider that an ad in Overstreet or a comic book could reach a couple hundred thousand potential buyers.

So the same holds true today. Is it a hassle? Yeah, sometimes. It could even be disappointing. Is it a big deal? No. No it isn't--as long as the seller offers a full refund. This is how the hobby has operated for decades.

A pretty damning statement that we can't seem to evolve past this.

And, I'm sorry, I don't buy it. We have evolved past this. We have the tools to keep everything up to date (if not instantly, at least on a daily basis). And it is a big deal because it highlights the laziness and carelessness of so many sellers on this site who don't use the tools.

Then again, if I were to guess, I think most of the problems like this come from the brick and mortar stores. The complete lack of attention to detail is why I gave up on them years ago. I agree. There are several possibilities that can cause a seller to not be able to fill an order. As I see it they are as follows:

1. A brick & mortar store has their store stock listed on CCL and the book in question was either sold at the store or put back in the wrong location so that it can't be found.

2. A CCL seller also sells at local comic shows or flee markets and sold or miss filed the book there.

3. A CCL seller has too much stock and has lost control of where he has filed his books.

4. A book was listed wrong due to an error in the grade or variant letter.

5. An honest mistake that happens because none of us are perfect.

The solution to these are simple. For #1 & #2 keep separate stock for your CCL store that others can't get at. If that's not possible expect unhappy customers and Mortal or Villain feedback. For #3 cut back on the amount of books listed or put your store on vacation until you can get organized. If you're going to run a business do it in a business like manner. #4 & #5 are things that can't be helped. If they happen too often the seller should take a serious look at how he does his job. Is an employee doing the grading or listing on CCL? If so maybe he doesn't care as much as he should. Mistakes will happen but when they do the seller should contact the buyer, explain the situation, offer a solution and give the buyer the opportunity to cancel the order.

Many of the sellers on CCL are people trying to unload their extra books. These sellers have a regular 9-5 job and might not be able to get to the post office more than once a week. If that's the case they should let the buyer know. Every notice I get from PayPal telling me I have a new order is responded to with the day the order will ship. Tell a customer that the order you received on Monday won't ship until Saturday due to your work schedule and they will understand. Communication is key.

The following stores are all stores that I've dealt with or have become friends with through the forums and I highly recommend them all.

I used to occasionally have this problem back when I used to sell at conventions. It's really hard to keep track of everything you sell there, and a lot of effort to go through your entire collection to verify what you've still got. This is the main reason I don't do shows anymore!

Just went through my last 37 orders (how far back my PM conversations go) with 17 different sellers. Waiting to get two more orders from two more sellers.

Not including grading issues or found damaged upon pulling, of the 37 orders, 19 have had problems due to poor seller inventory control. That's just over 50% and the 19 problems occurred with 12 of the 17 sellers. So, yeah, I'd say stores here have a problem.

On the positive side of things, here's the stores that I'll definitely order from again because there have been zero issues in previous orders:

Comics Castle - The far and away leader with multiple orders and no problems. Pat's the best of the best here.

Pawl's Attic - A couple super-sized orders and Paul nailed them both.

East Bay Comics - Just had my first order with them recently. Accurate and a reasonable (if not fast) shipping turnaround.

symbiotik comics, cards, and collectables - Just ordered with them in August. Fast and accurate.

Read The Story (Play the Game) - Okay, so there was one grading problem over two years ago that required a refund, but other than that, great multiple order service.

Just curious, SwiftMann.....are all of those errors from different sellers, or are some of them repeat orders from the same ones?
