I thought this might be fun for forum members. Let's decide together, who is the greatest hero of all-time.
We can start by naming nominations here in this thread. You can nominate any character in comics, movies, video games, books, fantasy, fiction, whatever.
And you can nominate characters that have already been nominated, as that would count for another vote towards that character.
After this thread runs it's course for a few days. I'll put the top 10 most nominated characters into a poll, and we can vote on it, if there's interest in this.
So the running total for nominations, so far:
-Batman - 2
-Captain America - 1
-Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) - 1
-Hulk - 1
-Luke Skywalker - 2
-Spider-Man - 4
-Superman - 3
-Wolverine - 1

Even though they have over saturated the market for years with this character. Wolverine is the best there is....
(referring to an original comic book piece) This is a art gallery my friend and THIS is a piece of art.

Superman - if it wasn't for him we most likely wouldn't be enjoying hero comics as we do today

I'm going with Comic Castle also.
this is just going to be a who is the most popular instead of a who is the most heroic.

Spider-Man is my vote. He has the greatest sense of morality, and the biggest heart of all the heroes.

Although not my favorite, it's hard to beat superman.

It's a hard choice for me between Superman and Captain America. Going by the actual definition of Hero I think my vote is for Captain America.

If we were talking strictly comics then I would say Spider-Man. I know Superman was first but ol' Petey was genre-changing. He was the first major hero (not sidekick) who was a teenager. He had problems. He was human. He got his butt kicked on a regular basis. But he never quit. (Well maybe once or twice but he always came back!) The Web-Head is the quintessential hero.
However, you said:

So I am going with Luke Skywalker. (While technically Luke is also a comic character he was movie first) Here is a guy who is an orphan laboring away on some backwater desert planet only to find out he's the son of a tyrannical, mass-murdering despot and the heir to unimaginable power. He uses this power selflessly and leads the Rebellion to victory over the evil Galactic Empire despite overwhelming odds and suffering the loss of a limb and the passing of his mentors.
Quality. Consistency. Variety. Reliable. Fair. Friendly

My personal nomination goes to Green Lantern - Hal Jordan, (since there's still spots left).
Fearless, selfless, and skilled. Everything a hero should be.

I'd go for Superman. When I think "Hero", I think Supes. Totally selfless. Protecting a race of beings he has no kinship to. Absolute upright in his moral sense of what is right and wrong (this is one reason I didn't care for Superman Returns so much--they took this morally correct character and turned him into a deadbeat dad).
I'm also basing this as his character is portrayed in Superman I & II. Never read a lot of Superman comics. Haven't seen Man of Steel.

In order
#1 - My daughter (aka LadyZei)
#2 The rest of the 1229th Transportation Company from Baltimore Md
#3 - Comics Castle
#4 - Billy Tucci
#5 - Batman
Ok, I know you meant Comics characters, but those who are serving and have served our country are the real heroes and Pat is well...Pat. Billy Tucci has served our country and remains a huge supporter of our military, just watching hom interact with current members of the military and veterans is a real lesson. But...If I have to pick a comic character, no one is better than the Bat.
