Some comics published in May 2013 by DC had gatefold covers. That wasn't news, but this may be: For some (if not all) titles that were also published in newsstand editions, the newsstand editions were produced without the gatefold.

Legion of Super-Heroes #19 is one such comic; Batwoman #19 appears to be another. The Legion issue I can verify with absolute certainty; I have both direct-sales and newsstand versions. For the Batwoman issue, I have the newsstand version only, and I am relying on CCL's listing for the information that the direct-sales version had a gatefold.

I would like to ask: Do CCL rules cover this situation? If so, do they permit listing of both direct-sales and newsstand versions in the Library?

I am sorry to be so late with this information; I've been behind in my reading, and I didn't notice this until a few minutes ago.

Yes, that would qualify as a variant, but only if you can prove both exist.

The following stores are all stores that I've dealt with or have become friends with through the forums and I highly recommend them all.

Agreed - definitely a variant with proof of existance.

It turns out Bleeding Cool commented on this back in April: To view, go to that website, then add to the end of the Internet address:

forums/comic-book-forum/69341-wtf-no-gatefold-covers-dcs-newsstand-comics.html

Be sure that a slash separates the site name from the string I have provided (depending on your browser, it may not be inserted automatically).

I think it's safe to list websites in the forums for purposes of verifying things like this. Especially if it's a non-selling website. So have at it.

I wonder why I get "yes" votes here, and nothing but "no" votes on my actual CR?

Seriously, thanks to all for your supportive words.

Because people agree with it in principle, but the actual submission still needs tweaking.

Reading some of the snide, rude and mean comments in that thread about the DC gatefold covers makes me glad I don't venture to other comic forums often and grateful for the generally courteous members on this site.

I don't know, that guy going on and on about the possibility they were "defective" copies or the couple claim anti-DC bias make me sympathize with the snide, rude and mean.
