I recently got a couple of Showcase Presents TPBs as gifts. "Enemy Ace" and "The War That Time Forgot". Both are titles I wouldn't normally have checked out. I've been reading both over the last week and I'm really really loving them. Both are a plesant surprise and a nice change of pace to read. On another note I'm surprised that the black-and-white format doesn't bother me like I thought it would.

What books have you guys read just because and discovered that you really liked when you weren't sure you would?

Mind the Gap from Image. Was just looking for something new and issue #1 was out that week. Really enjoying it. Turned out to be a very twisty-turny murder mystery with some supernatural and science-fiction thrown in.

Also, Poison Elves. Picked up an issue just to get a friend to stop harassing me about it, and instantly fell in love. One of the best, funniest, craziest, move violent Sword&Sorcery books ever done.

For me it was Fables. At the time I never was into any non-Superhero titles and a friend kept recommending it. One day at my local library i was checking out Graphic Novles and grabbed a couple and have been hooked ever since. This series will be wrapping up in a year or so at 150. I only have a couple issues for sale but you can defintley pick most of these up cheap on here or at your local LCS.

Recently, I'd have to say Mind MGMT. I heard a few good things about it, and thought I would pick it up just to give it a try. To my surprise, it is actually very interesting.

Also, currently one of my favorites is Sixth Gun. Before reading this one, I had never read any western themed comics, and mysticism isn't really my bag either. This is a great series!

Revival and Bedlam both from Image. I was looking for something different and I grabbed a bunch of the Image First titles for a buck apiece. I really liked these two titles. I have since been piecing together back issues of both titles. Not to difficult since neither are high up in numbers.
Other titles I tried on a lark were Lone Ranger back when Dynamite first released it. Loved it. Didn't really know much about the character besides the usual stuff everyone knows. Another title from Dynamite I tried because the first issue was cheap was Project Superpowers. While super hero titles are what got me into comics and still remain a favorite of mine I have never liked Golden Age heroes or comics. Then I read this book and loved it. Even bought all the spin off titles of it.

I was surprised I liked this series. Only reason I bought it was because issue 1 was only $1 and thought "It's only a buck"
