Although they've been going strong for many years now and are apparently quite popular (at least the variant covers), I never picked up any of Zenescope's books until recently.

What is the appeal?
I just finished their recent "Oz" mini and it was so very bad... a few cool covers, but the interior art was subpar (at its best) and the writing was just plain terrible.
All 6 issues are going in the 'get rid of it' pile, including the "special" covers I wound up with.
Are the cheese-cake/semi-porn covers the only reason people collect GFT?

I really enjoyed their "Dream Eater Saga", but sometimes the cover art does outshine the interiors by a long shot. No doubt about it.

Yes. It's the T&A cheesecake covers that drive people to buy the books. Just look at the numerous "naughty" and "nice" covers clogging up the db.

I've never bought one. These titles are conspicuously absent from my LCS. I wouldn't be compelled to buy any of those titles as I've always been against the practice of putting out mags with "hot" cover art as an apology for the inferior interior art. Plus, I make a rule of not being seduced by multiple variant covers. Choose one that you like best, and that's enough.

I'd just seen the latest Oz movie when I saw that this title was coming so I added it to my sub list.
Good timing Zenescope, well played...
They won't get me again.

The only issue for GFT I own is Grimm Fairy Tales #1. Picked it up for free at a Con when Zenesope was just starting up. Happened to walk by their table in artists' alley and Joe Brusha asked if I wanted a copy. Signed it too.

I started with their unleashed event so I bought alot of those. the cover art for the most part is great but, the stories seem to be written by a 15 year old. the interior art is horrible also might have to do alot with skimping out on the colorist.

Try reading things written by Raven Gregory. The wonderland series is really good imo but that could just be because I'm a huge Alice in Wonderland fan. Fly was also pretty cool and written by Raven Gregory, it's basically a story about being injected with a serum that gives you super powers. Flying, strength, the whole 9 yards. Each injection lasts only several hours, so how far would you go for your next fix? Brusha can't write for (banned), anything written by him i'd avoid like the plague. The original Grimm Fairy Tales was cool but they were written by Ralph Tedesco and Joe Tyler. I think the last issue I read for the GFT series was in the late 30's. So anything between issue 1-30 I can attest to was pretty good. The interior art is okay but I don't read comics for the interior art. I read them for their stories. Never read any of the Oz stuff but I think they are written by Brusha which is why I never looked at them.

90% of comic book collectors have a huge pile of comic books that they'll never read. So if you just picked some covers up for the art, I can't see how that is any different than the books you all have lying around that were never opened. Just consider these as having better covers than the pile of DC and sub par Marvel books no one has read yet. Nerd

On a side note, the majority of the people who buy Zenescope books are hot girls. You can see them at shows or just people who've liked our facebook page and had conversations about the titles. I actually met a beautiful Blonde from Indian Trail (I Live in indian trail) who liked our FB page, we hung out a few days ago. She was really cool and down to earth, it surprised me how much she knew about comics in general.

Physically, I’ve never met anybody who doesn’t read their funny books or just collects them for their covers. That’s an absurd alien concept to me. Dollars to donuts I’d take Marvel and DC covers over the GFT softcore porn covers any day (BUT that's just me).

You're lucky! I really know a guy that can barely read who is an avid collector of Grimm Fairy Tales. Laughing
