I don't think that's a swipe, per se.
I mean, he telling the same origin story about the same character. It seems fairly obvious that this is an intentional duplication.

A cover is an homage. A few panels here or there is an homage. But this is like a panel for panel rip-off. ***CHECK OUT MY COMIC TRADING LIST, CLICK HERE******TRADE VIDEO GAMES WITH ME, CLICK HERE******TRADE COMIC CARDS WITH ME, CLICK HERE***Make sure that you read and understand the forum rules here

It's defintely not a lightbox rip-off though. Personally, I think I would have re-imagined those panels, even if it was just showing the same thing from different angles. Still, it's like with the beginning of X-Men:First Class, the Magneto Nazi story was redone shot for shot with additional scenes. (but it was done well, LOL) Shop At My Store!!

(but it was done well, LOL) I'm not fan of Liefeld, but honestly this doesn't bother me too much. It's almost as if he was instructed to devote a few pages to telling the origin, but since he thought it was told perfectly in Teen Titans, there was no reason to mess with it much, and if he couldn't reprint those pages, he'd just redraw them. I think he would freely admit (in this instance) that he was swiping from Perez. I'm assuming, of course, that this only goes on for a few pages, and not the majority of the book.

It doesn't matter if it's 50 Cents or 50 Dollars - if you list it as NM it better be NM.Xylob's Most Wanted: G.I.Joe Special Missions TPB 2 Tales from the Transformers Beast Wars: Critical Mass Transformers: Timelines #3 - either cover, no preference. I like the paragraph at the bottom where the Swipe File cites about three other sources where they swiped the idea for the Swipe File.

In his defense, there are considerably less 'Bams' and 'Kliks' in the Liefeld pages.

Let me preface this by saying..>I hate Liefeld as much as the next guy....but....
Am I the only one that notices this is obviously some kind of page by page homage. I mean, it is obvious he is doing this on purpose. This isn't swiping or anything. He is simply representing the original origin and honoring Perez by not changing a thing.

Did he mention George Perez ever? Was George Perez consulted? Did he get any kind of payment for using his original art? A cover, a few panels. That would be an homage. This is using someone else's work, without credit, and Liefield slapping his name on it as if it came form him. ***CHECK OUT MY COMIC TRADING LIST, CLICK HERE******TRADE VIDEO GAMES WITH ME, CLICK HERE******TRADE COMIC CARDS WITH ME, CLICK HERE***Make sure that you read and understand the forum rules here

He still had to draw everything himself. Perez handled the original artwork, the character interactions, poses, panel progression, layouts, etc. That, Liefeld used as source material and it probably saved him a huge amount of time, but he still did draw it himself. It's not traced. That said, the credits were not handled properly, so it is essentially swiped, unless on the credits page it says: artwork - Liefeld, After Goerge Perez. Saying "After" means you are still illustrating the work yourself, but you're looking at someone elses artwork as the source material and re-creating it. Not to be confused with using a light box. But, citing the proper source is essential. Maybe he thought there was enough of a change that he did not have to, or maybe he just wamted to drum up some publicity...

This subtle difference tends to elude stick figure artists. lol Shop At My Store!!
