Did anyone else see this movie? I didn't think it was all that great. I think it should have been called The Hobbit - Run since that's what was happening most of the time. Lots of running away with very little fighting. I guess it was also a bit of a letdown since we know that Bilbo doesn't die since he's in the Lord of the Rings series so the suspense was kind of lacking. Plus I found the movie to be way too long, especially the first hour which was really boring. Even the High Frame Rate version wasn't so great. I felt the Special Effects didn't match up with the High Frame Rate look and the whole time it looked like it was shot with a video camera and it seemed like I was watching the news. It's a shame because I was looking forward to it. Sorry if everyone loved it but I tried to get on board and just couldn't. Maybe I was too distracted by the High Frame Rate.

Have you read the Hobbit or the Lord of the Rings trilogy?
They added story that was vaguely mentioed in the book, but the constant fleeing from danger is essentially the story until they reach the Lonely Mountain and the Battle of Five Armies, and Bilbo being in both the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings is accurate to both Movies and Books.

Of course I've read them. I wasn't talking about the plot or it veering from the original story, I was more talking about the film being kind of boring and not as exciting as the Lord of the Rings films and the High Frame Rate actually ruining the viewing experience for me. And yes, I know Bilbo was in both series. I'm just saying from a suspense standpoint it's hard to feel any anxiety that Bilbo will fall off the cliff or get killed by an orc or goblin or whatever when you know he will be in the sequels, books or film.
These are just my opinions.

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. Looking forward to the next two.

I liked the movie overall but it wasn't "The Hobbit". They added a bunch of material from the Silmarillion obviously which I didn't mind so much but there was a lot of unnecessary things thrown in there. Frodo's appearance seemed awkward, as did older Bilbo. I actually liked the expanded role for Radagast, even though almost all of it was new. I guess Peter Jackson was making up for the absence of Tom Bombadil from the LotR trilogy!
The dwarves were cool but hard to tell apart at first but I did like them.
All I can say is that it probably would have been better being two movies as originally planned. And I will be seeing the other two when they come out!

I didn't hate it, but I didn't enjoy nearly as much as The Lord of the Rings. The thing that I hated the most is that there was just too many silly scenes. It was like the movie didn't take itself seriously, and that really bothered me.

I loved it. Visually, it was just stunning to look at but I also enjoyed the interaction between all the characters.
Bilbo meeting Gollum is one of my favorite scenes so it was great seeing that on film.

I really enjoyed it, but that was once the actual story actually started. It just took so long to just get the darn thing set up!
Yea, I don't like high frame rate so I imagine I would have the same problem as you.
I could also do without some of the additions they made, but all movies have their low key moments.
I think I have a better time telling the dwarves apart in the movie than in the books. It was just difficult for me b/c they were given no descriptions apart from their hats.

I thought it was okay, but not great. Too drawn out and I got the impression that Peter Jackson couldn't decide whether to make it a comedy or a more serious adventure/fantasy movie. In the LOTR movies he used just enough humor to keep things from getting too dark. In the Hobbit there were times that that the humor just didn't seem to work with everything else that was going on.
On top of that it was just too slow and dragging it out for 3 movies is riduculous. Jackson told fit the 3 LOTR books into 3 movies and now he's producing 3 movies out of one book that wasn't even as long as any of the indivdual individual LOTR books? Definitely overkill. I can
maybe
see two movies, although even that seems a bit much; three just guarantees everything moving too slow.
I'm seriously considering saving my money and waiting for the next 2 to hit television.

I think what a lot of people misjudge is basing the length of the book on the length of the movie (or movies). Remember that in the original story, the Battle of Five Armies takes like a page to happen. There's not much exposition about what happens in the battle - just who's involved and the outcome. A few pages later the book ends completely. (Just for comparison, the Battle of Helm's Deep in T2T lasts pages and pages and pages) These days nerdom demands more detail to happen in their comics and movies, and I for one and am happy to give Peter Jackson my money to show me that detail.
