Windows 8, and I hate it. It was incompatible with a large number of my PC game collection. I've had to replace a few favorites through GoG.com and Steam.
And it's just annoying with these pop-up menus constantly when you're trying to click on something else in the window. I hate the tiles. I just put it on desktop mode most of the time. And the software package that comes with Windows isn't nearly as large as it has been with other versions of windows.

7 at work, set up to look like NT/2000
XP at home, set up to look like NT/2000...
When M$ drops support for XP next year I'm gonna have to break down and build/buy a new PC and whatever dreck they've got out at the time that is relatively stable (probably 7).

Get yourself win7 now while you still can. If you wait until next year, I doubt you'll find it.
MS is cramming Win8 down everyone's gullet. Doesn't everyone have a tablet or a touch screen?? Pfft. Not.
FYI - WinXP support from MS is pretty much dead already for consumers. It's limping along on Extended support which is only for commercial customers - that's right from the
MS Windows Lifecycle Fact sheet
.

Most people just don't have the knowledge or the patience to do that these days.
I compare it to the automobile industry. In the old days, most people did their own maintenance and knew how to change a flat tire. These days, the car practically drives itself and people would rather wait 45 minutes for AAA than take 15 minutes to change a tire themselves.

Windows 7 on my latest machine, bought last April. Was not impressed that Microsoft Office was no longer included in the software package free. And I still entertain my old Windows Vista machine which I use to do my cover scans with.

I was fine with WinXP, but made the change to Win7. It's about the same but more fancier. I agree, I don't like that MS Office doesn't come free. I was lucky enough to still have a service disk to reinstall office after the upgrade.
I really want Linux, but sadly I need more space so I can fit it with Linx b/c that OS isn't supported by every program.

Since when has Office come with Windows for "free"????
Perhaps I've never gotten that deal because I always build my computers instead of buying them?

Never. That's how manufacturers have been able to drop prices by $200 or more though - put a trial version of Office on instead of a full version with a paid license.

psshh... a trial version is not 'free' Office. I've got a HUP anyway, so the full-on super-bad-ass version of Office only costs me $20.
