I was talking to somebody on Facebook about this issue and spotted a difference.

In his copy he has an ad for Mario Bros. on Atari 2600 and Atari 5200. My version doesn't have this ad.

I assume it's a difference between Newstand and Direct Edition. And I know CCL doesn't recognize that difference. But because the content inside the book is different, would that count as a variant here?

Also, the version here you see has an Avengers symbol "A". Mine has a barcode there.

Generally speaking, we don't consider ads "content" so this wouldn't be a variant.

Out of curiosity, what does yours have instead of the Mario ad?

I'm not sure what page it's on for him, and I'm at work so I can't flip through my copy right now.

But I do remember a Dungeons & Dragons ad and an ad for Buckaroo Banzai. I can see what else was there when I get home.

Both the newsstand and direct edition had ads for Dreadstar by Epic on them, so that is weird if his has an Atari ad.

Thanks to the following sellers for helping me put together my complete run of Amazing Spider-man #1-700

ComicCastle
TreeHouse
Hall Of Heroes
Thundercron's Longbox
DrumCzar

Now for the sellers helping me finish my TMNT collection:

Hall Of Heroes
Green Bay Comics

Mine has the Dreadstar ad, too.

I'd love to see scans of all this. Usually, differing ad content was a sign of a second printing. Sometimes it was noted in the indicia, sometimes it wasn't. Check the Hype Box/Checklist for another clue to see if they were printed in different months. Early issues of Marvel's Transformers had multiple printings, with different printings having different ads (including the back cover). I've never heard of this happening with West Coast Avengers.

I'll message him and see what page the Mario ad was on for him. And when I get home tonight, I'll try to remember and take some pics of mine.

Nevermind. Apparently he was mistaken and saw in issue #3.
