Looks like there will be no reunion in DC for Kirk Cousins.

Just heard he's heading to Atlanta.

Another Cowboy heading to the skins.
Quote:
Washington agreed to terms with former Cowboys defensive end Dorance Armstrong early in the legal tampering period on Monday. Shortly afterward, the Commanders found their next center, agreeing to terms with former Cowboys center Tyler Biadasz.

Biadasz comes to Washington after four years in Dallas, where he appeared in 61 games with 53 starts. Biadasz took over as the Cowboys center late in his rookie season and remained there over the next three seasons.

Biadasz reportedly agreed to a three-year deal worth $30 million, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post.

Now a linebacker from Carolina.

Quote:
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Commanders have agreed to terms with Panthers linebacker Frankie Luvu on a three-year deal worth up to $36 million.

Some Tackles would be nice..............any minute now.

Apparently we have 3/4's of a defensive line and for the offense, Cosmi at RG, a center and what else? Maybe last years rookie center moves to LG or Wylie if they don't cut him but there's no way he can be at RT again.

So we're losing Gibson but just signed someone from the Chargers to replace him.

Quote:
Washington lost RB Antonio Gibson earlier in the day when he reportedly agreed to a 3-year deal with the New England Patriots. Ekeler will join Brian Robinson Jr. and Chris Rodriguez Jr. In Washington's new offense led by OC Kliff Kingsbury

I'll wait to see if the talking heads think it's an upgrade or not.

Here we go again.
Quote:
For the second consecutive season, the Washington Commanders are expected to sign a member of the Kansas City Chiefs starting offensive line.

Last offseason, the Commanders signed Andrew Wylie to a two-year deal to be their right tackle. On Monday, Washington general manager Adam Peters agreed to terms with Chiefs guard Nick Allegretti on a three-year deal worth up to $16 million.

It sounds like we're trying to take a KC backup and make him the starter at Left Guard here. I wonder what that means for Paul, Brooks and the rookie center from last year that was playing LG some.

So I believe we're now up to 3/4's of a defensive line and 3/5's of an offensive line.

CAN WE GET A TACKLE NOW PLEASE , LEFT, RIGHT, BOTH??????

Brisset is gone to the Patriots now to stay with Gibson so it looks like we'll need at least 1 quarterback from somewhere.

Now a kicker.
Quote:
The Washington Commanders are moving on from kicker Joey Slye. Late Monday, during the opening day of the NFL’s legal tampering period, Washington agreed to terms on a one-year deal with veteran kicker Brandon McManus.

Hopefully someone checked to make sure he can actually make extra points and clear the line with his kicks. This is a new era, no more hitting lineman in the back of their heads with footballs. That's a Ron thing.

A 49er and what appears to be a rotational DE, maybe not the starter.

Washington Commanders Free Agency: 49ers DE Clelin Ferrell agrees to 1-year deal
Another DE signed

By Bobby_Gould Mar 12, 2024, 9:51am EDT

Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Unio / USA TODAY NETWORK
As a 2019 first round draft pick in Las Vegas, there were claims that Clemson defensive end Clelin Ferrell was overdrafted by Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock when he was taken at #4 overall. After four uninspired years with the Raiders, averaging about 2 sacks per season, Ferrell signed a 1-year deal with the 49ers early in 2023.

As part of a rotation in San Francisco - playing 43% of defensive snaps - he had a reasonable amount of success. He’s a known quantity to GM Adam Peters and defensive line coach Darryl Tapp who both came over from the 49ers.

Need I say it, TACKLE PLEASE!!!!! The lack of a veteran qb signing makes me think we're rolling with Sam and a rookie to be announced.

Another Eagle and muddying of the QB situation.

Quote:
The Washington Commanders added a veteran quarterback Tuesday, agreeing to terms with Marcus Mariota. Jacoby Brissett departed Washington after one season to sign with the New England Patriots, hoping to land a starting position.

Apparently he's being paid like a #2 so does that mean Sam is #1 or is Sam gone to be replaced with a draft pick? Nailbiting

Howie must be loving this with all these Eagles.

Another Cowboy.

Quote:
Commanders agree to terms with Cowboys DE Dante Fowler Jr.

I'll need to read more but it sounds like a complete defensive line now while we're still holding steady at 3/5's of and offensive line.

Washington Commanders Free Agency: Safety Jeremy Chinn Signed to a 1-year Deal
Safety time

By Bobby_Gould Mar 12, 2024, 5:02pm EDT
NFL: Minnesota Vikings at Carolina Panthers
Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports
There were questions as to whether Washington might try to re-sign safety Kamren Curl this offseason, and those seem to have been put to bed with the 1-year deal just struck with former Panther Jeremy Chinn.

During his first two seasons in Carolina, Chinn was a monster, finishing second to Chase Young in the Defensive Rookie of the Year standings in 2020. Over the past two seasons, his production has dropped off, with some suggesting he was misused by Panthers’ DC Ejiro Everett as a safety, as opposed to more of a buffalo nickel role.

Another Panther now Commanther. Looks like Curl is going to be gone.

Washington is back to having four former first-round picks on its defensive line: Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne, Clelin Ferrell and Dante Fowler.

How well did that work out the last 4 years???? Laughing

Grant Paulsen
@granthpaulsen
The Commanders DE room has been completely re-worked. Was the thinnest position on roster.

Dorance Armstrong
Clelin Ferrell
Dante Fowler
KJ Henry
Andre Jones

Could still take an edge at 36 or 40 but it's now way less necessary. Can draft an offensive weapon if one falls.

I'm guessing Grant hasn't realized we still only have 3/5's of an offensive line. Wall Unless our only plays are going to be runs up the middle, something else needs to happen here.

I'm still looking for 2 tackles, a corner good enough to be a starter, another quality linebacker, and resigning a few of the leftovers from the wasted years. I'm still hoping we replace and upgrade Curtis Samuels with Marvin Harrison Jr. Coach up Sam and find some tackles to protect him or grab good one later in the 1st trading back up or at least high in the 2nd.

Option B- trade back and trade back again and again until we lock down all 32 picks in the 7th round this year and next. let the coaches earn their keep finding the hidden gems, Purdy's and Curls that others missed. Shotgun approach. Never worry about the cap or the SuperBowl.

Special teams look solid on paper so long as we don't have to kick field goals longer than 50 yards.
Quote:
The Washington Commanders have re-signed their first potential free agent before the new league year starts today at 4pm. Safety and special teams captain Jeremy Reaves posted that he was back with the team, and it was reportedly for two years.

We've upgraded the snapper, still have MVP punting, new kicker who's more accurate with short stuff and PAT's and now locked down our Pro Bowl kick off cover guy.

Another Seahawk and linebacker.
Quote:
The Washington Commanders are signing former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

It’s a one-year deal worth a max value of $8.5 million for Wagner, including $6 million in guarantees.

Wagner, a former second-round pick by the Seahawks in 2012, is a six-time First-Team All-Pro, nine-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion during his 11-year tenure with Seattle.

I think we're good on linebackers now. I'd trade all 3 of them for 1 starting quality tackle. Someone has to keep Sam upright long enough to throw the ball to Marvin.

I'm losing count on how many #1 picks are now on the defense.
4 on the line
2 at linebacker
at least 1 on the back end assuming toothpick makes it on the field.

Bobby Wagner in 2023:

91.5 run defense grade (2nd among LBs)
48 stops in the run game (2nd)
82.4 PFF Grade

Commanders sign former Lions linebacker Anthony Pittman

Bryan Manning
March 14, 2024 3:38 pm ET
The Washington Commanders signed their third linebacker this week on Thursday, agreeing to a deal with former Lions linebacker Anthony Pittman.

Pittman is the 14th outside free agent Washington has reached a deal with this week. The Commanders have thus far brought back two of their internal free agents, Jeremy Reaves and Jamison Crowder.

Pittman, 27, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent from Wayne State. He spent all five seasons of his NFL career with the Detroit Lions. Washington will be the first team Pittman has played for outside of the state of Michigan.

That's 3 linebackers signed. This is soooo unlike anything Ron and crew would ever consider. A team with actual linebackers on it.

Apparently no tackles though. It's starting to look like they'll be playing something new with maybe 7 receivers and running backs on the field for every play. That's the ticket, the true spread formation only running up the middle. We don't need no stinkin tackles!!!!!! They want too much money so we'll do without.

The news just broke that the Washington Commanders are trading QB Sam Howell to the Seattle Seahawks. The two teams will trade picks and Howell as Washington moves on from their starter from last season.

So we're absolutely, positively drating a QB and SAM IS GONE!!!!!!

Quote:
Another QB trade: Commanders are sending last year’s starter Sam Howell to the Seahawks in a pick swap, per sources.

Trade:
🏈Seahawks receive Howell, a fourth-round pick (No. 102), a sixth (No. 179).

🏈Commanders receive a third (No. 78) and a fifth (No. 152).

So Sam's value is essentially moving up 24 pick spots in the 3rd!!!! Feel's like we just got shafted. Watch Sam with better coaching and a better line start to figure things out and become great.

Kendal Fuller and Curtis Samuel signed elsewhere so it makes the CB position even more in need of a shutdown corner and creates a need in the WR's although I've seen comments saying Eckler could take Samuels snaps.

The dream of Marvin Harrison Jr grows dimmer. We can always daydream about what it would take to trade up for #1 without giving up this years #2 and how magical it could be to see MHJ on the field with CW, both on rookie deals for 5 years!!!!!! Drooling

Justin Fields from Chicago to Pit which makes several things interesting.

QB competition between Wilson and Fields.

Chicago most likely drafting QB, only question is which or if they're trading down to select a qb other than CW.

CW gone looks more certain which makes Marvin Harrison Jr that much more appealing at #2 or anywhere they trade back to in the top 4. That also would mean they're going to be trying to trade back up into the first to grab a qb that's dropping most likely if they take MHJ at #2.

Things would be much clearer if they'd find a tackle or two in free agency or trade prior to the draft. It's really scary thinking Willie is now looking like he's penciled back in at RT for another year and no one at LT..

It still feels like we need a starting caliber corner as well.

Another Cowboy signed, at least this one appears to have little chance of actually making the team. At worst it sounds like a special teamer we will not notice.
