Like every good comic series that doesn't sell well, there must come an ending. BOOSTER GOLD #25 is one of those stereotypical wind-up, lack of sales kind of final issues.
While BOOSTER GOLD has gained more popularity these days, back in the 80's it was a different story. Lasting only 25 issues, BOOSTER GOLD was one of those titles that didn't outlive the MILLENIUM era of DC COMICS similar to titles like MANHUNTER. Although BOOSTER GOLD played an integral part of the MILLENIUM mythology (and having one of the cooler sidekicks with SKEETS), it wasn't enough to save the series.
We find BOOSTER GOLD has given up being BOOSTER GOLD. Going undercover with the Manhunters has caused the world to distrust him. With one of the Millenium's "chosen ones" at his side, BOOSTER, upset with his arrangement with the robot MANHUNTERS, destroys his home, turns of Skeets and goes into hiding. The series has the JUSTICE LEAGUE hopping around trying to locate BOOSTER, and when they do find him, they talk him back into being a hero once more.
It's a lackluster ending to an other wise decent run of a series. BOOSTER GOLD's first appearance in issue #1 has become more sought after over time, but that doesn't keep the entire series from being a pretty good read...and I'm not a big fan of DAN JURGEN's writing.
All in all, if you got the other 24 issues, do yourself a favor and finish the series off already! It's worth it for SKEETS alone.
