I read this book, put it down and thought; "why is this book being published?". I guess having Ms. Gordon as Batgirl will increase sales, but there's really no reason to have Batgirl, be Batgirl. Batgirl is a 24/25 year old WOMAN. She calls herself Batgirl in the comic. What 25 year old woman calls herself a girl? I thought one of the intents of the new 52 was to establish strong minority and women characters? To me, the Ms. Gordon is a wheelchair in the old universe was a strong woman (and a strong disabled character), who would fit in the new 52. Also, she can't be called Batwoman, because there's a Batwoman #1 already out there, which is by far a superior book to this one.
The book flashesback to the Joker shooting her. In fact, Batgirl says she started walking again because of a "miracle". Huh? What miracle? I'm all for mystery in a comic, but come on. For a character that people have such a strong connection to, you either say, well she's retro'd and can just walk again and move on, or explain how she started walking again.
While the flashbacks to the Joker paralizing Batgirl work, it's not enough to overcome the lame characters, so-so story and busy art.
All in all - I really do wish this was better since I usually like Gail Simone's stuff - 2/5.
