A Charming and Jazzy Look Back at Marvel's DAREDEVIL #1 from 1964!

Now that NETFLIX and MARVEL STUDIOS has broken the internet with the release of their smash hit show DAREDEVIL, I thought it would be a great time to take a look back at the original comic that started it all: DAREDEVIL #1 published by MARVEL waaaay back in 1964.

It's an origin story as told in the way MARVEL could back during the grand ol' days of the silver age as told by writer STAN LEE and artist BILL EVERETT (whose name seems to missing from the opening credits of the TV show along with WALLY WOOD).

And every aspect of original DAREDEVIL mythology can pretty much be found in this issue. From his childhood growing up in the shadows of his father "Battlin'" Jack Murdock, to the ridicule he faced from his friends as a "Daredevil", to the fateful day he's blinded by a truck carrying radioactive chemicals while saving a pedestrian.

His father, a boxer, fails to throw a fight arranged by a villainous baddie known as "THE FIXER" and is murdered. But even though Matt lost his sight in the chemical accident, his senses were heightened to an unearthly degree. Training both his mind and body, he becomes DAREDEVIL, the Man Without Fear...and one of the first super-heroes to take a disadvantage and turn in it into an awesome ability.

We're also introduced to FOGGY NELSON and KAREN PAGE, who are also seen in the DAREDEVIL TV show.

DAREDEVIL has always been a fan-favorite by readers for years, and it's easy to see the appeal even in these classic stories...which are both nostalgic and lasting. Thankfully, you don't have to spend the cabbage to own the original issue (which has been heating up the back issue market for a while now) - there's lots of ways to read this story in reprints, including MARVEL MASTERWORKS and ESSENTIAL format.
