A Different kind of Hero

Artist Jay Anacleto does a really nice job of capturing the spirit of this book with his Spider-Man cover art. The rich, realist rendering helps as a nice entry point into this period piece.

Kurt Busiek followed up the inaugural issue of this series with a very thoughtful portrayal of our favourite journalist, Phil Sheldon. Off the recent news that he has cancer, Sheldon has some big decisions to make in his life. He does not disappoint, as he embraces his role as the average Joe's hero.

All in all the book has a very romanticized feeling to it. It must have truly been a time of awe for the average citizen back during the dawn of superheroes. Likewise, it was a time for change for the up and coming "Marvels". Together they represent a world which brings new surprises every day.

A nice read when all was said and done.
