As the Quiet Man's sweet dish of revenge against Reed Richards comes to a close, it's no-hold-barred all-out action in this final issue which brings the story of Marvel's first family to a close. There's loose ends tied up, closure and a nice red bow on top.
I have to say this is one of my favorite issues by JAMES ROBINSON to date. Not since STARMAN have you seen the true love and care for fictional characters shine through than in this issue. The level of humanity and depth is a joy to read. Probably one of my favorite scenes in this comic book (or in any comic book honestly) takes place when Reed calls his daughter Valeria in to get her opinion and assistance in solving a complex problem. It's a simple and effective moment between father and daughter and I have to admit, it was moving.
I'm a little sad to see this series close because it felt like this marriage of title and writer worked very well. JAMES ROBINSON is a writer who respects history, family and nostalgia. It's extremely evident in this writing assignment that they felt the need to send the FF into the future with a sturdy foundation with which to put the series to bed. And it is very nicely done.
There are a few short stories in the back of the book as well, one by writer LOUISE SIMONSON which features a touching moment between Sue and Franklin. So even with the $5.99 price tag, it totally pays for itself in valuable reading material.
Do yourself a favor and go pick up this arc by ROBINSON. You won't be sorry.
