A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste

This story was not so exciting, but we did learn a few things about Jackpot. In this book we finally find out who Jackpot is, and how she got her powers. It is nice to have some questions answered about this knockout looking hero, the story line was no winner.

Spidey and Jackpot are pursuing Blindside, a villain that gains his advantage by making his opponents blind with just a touch. Once the hero is blind, he can either kill them or flee. Either way, it makes for a tough fight for both blindside, and any hero found pursuing him.

The artwork is good. Mike McKone and the other artists do a fine job. The emotion runs high in this story, and the team does a great job of bringing that emotion to life.

The writing by Marc Guggenhiem is ok, but lacks the humor and fast pace that I have been used to with the “Brand New Day” spider-man. Maybe it is the seriousness of the content that was a bit of a downer for me. Guggenhiem deals with some very serious problems that happen in life, and I guess there is really no room for the quippy new Spider-Man that I love.

Don’t get me wrong, the issue is good, and it is a necessary read for die-hard Spider-Man fans. I enjoyed it, just not as much as some of the other story’s that have been so fantastic lately.
