The title of my review here says it all, this issue was a really pleasant surprise. At first I avoided this series because I am no fan of stories with huge guns and countless themes of advance technology when
not in a
sci-fi context, which this isn't.
But this had political themes that worked very well, and themes of human emotions which drew away from that aspect of technology and constant flying bullets.
I was touched by the amazing characterization of Rhodey's friend Parnell Jacobs, and how he became driven by his emotions to do good! Rhodey was written very well too, a good little bit of back story straight off the bat as to how Rhodey became the cyborg that he now is. It was written well, and when talking about Jacob's wife, I felt the emotion there.
The artwork was next to amazing! I was amazed at how this had been drawn with such care for detail.
Brilliant dialogue, a realistic, exciting story, top notch artwork and touching characterization.
I am no fan of Iron Man or War Machine as I do not dig character's whose main traits are huge guns and vast amounts of technology, but this went much more in-depth to the heart and soul of these characters.
I feel like I am reading about a character called Rhodey, and not a character called War Machine.
This was very good. Let's hope it stays this way.
