About Adventures of Jesus
*Frank Stack is one of the earliest of the "underground" cartoonists, he didn't want to jeopardize his chance at tenure and financial security, particularly since he taught in the Bible Belt and his cartoons were often sacrilegious. So for many years he drew his cartoons under the name "Foolbert Sturgeon." Some, including his old Texas friend Gilbert Shelton, regard Stack's "Adventures of Jesus" in 1962 to be the very first underground comic, though it was a 14-page Xerox zine circulated only among a small group of friends and never offered for sale.
