Afterthought?

Like any "Big Event", there are minor continuity errors due to the staggered release times of the books. This issue is a good example of this problem in that the events depicted within the book have already happened in some of the other Siege titles. I find there are two ways to look at this. The first being, these are minor problems that can be overlooked, and can be expected when tapping such a wide range of talent as your creative team. The second perspective, is that this is poor marketing and Marvel is just shooting themselves in the foot, making it more sensible for readers to wait for the trade paperbacks to come out, before buying any stories. Before I move into the actual review itself, I will offer one suggestion that I think would fix this problem with very little fuss. Release stories according to the story arcs rather than being slaves to ensuring that each title comes out at the same time each month. Storytelling for the sake of good storytelling, rather than ensuring we have a manageable shipping schedule.

Now, on to the book itself. Well, it was an adequate read. Volstagg entertains me to no end. He might even be funnier than Deadpool. He had many great lines during his battle with Ragnorok (the Thor clone designed during Civil War by Stark and Pym.) I have been really fascinated by the Asgardian character Tyr, and I would love to learn more about him. On the downside, I feel like the story exists just on the outside of what should be the main story. I keep waiting to get to the meat of the story, and instead Kieron Gillen just seems to skirt around all the important stuff. The art is comprised of the work of about 4 different artists, and they create good, safe panels to look at.

I am intrigued by the idea that the Asgardians can’t hold back Earth’s mightiest heroes (no pun intended), but I think this is far from the main idea the writers are trying to get across. And therefore, the thing that I like the most about this book isn’t even really an intentional part of the story.

Ultimately, the book that should be the central focus of the Seige storyline has basically become filler.
