Neil Adams’ Batman Odyssey #2 continues with this great multi-layered story line introducing one of Batman’s most dramatic stories told in a story-with-in-a-story mode. To some reviewers this way of story telling is confusing and makes for a disjointed narrative, but if read carefully it actually accentuates the best of Batman as mentor to Robin and as a hero figure to the rest of us. The connection Batman makes with the reader as he tells the background story and the experience of the overlapping narration is the most admiring feature of Adam’s writing.
In terms of art this issue is outstanding, especially wit the large panels that show so much detail that places the reader right into the action like few artists do effectively now a days. This is a great story by a great writer / artist that deserves more than what some reviewers have dished out.
