Wolverine is now confronting his captor and the outcome of all his past actions and learning about himself in the process. This is a device used by many artists to highlight the power of confronting yourself in the dire circumstances of being in what a Christian society would consider the epitome of darkness: hell. Dante’s Inferno comes to mind as a direct antecedent to this approach. Wolverine will sure come out of it a better fellow for his experience.
I’m looking forward to the end of this story arc and where it will take Wolverine in the Marvel Universe. It has been a nice ride and a good diversion from the traditional stories involving Wolverine and the other X-Men.
Just a few words about the Scorched Earth back story that concluded in this issue. It seems that eve Spaghetti westerns are a good source of material for super-hero comics. I’m referring to the Cannonfoot character that shoots ball bearing from his foot. I remember watching one of the Van Cliff westerns where a ball bearing kicking cowboy does the same thing.
