I always look forward to my monthly instalment of the Thunderbolts. After Hyperion's betrayal in the last issue, I was incredibly pumped to pick up this issue!
The entire artistic team deserves props for their classic comic rendering throughout the panels of this book. Kev Walker plays with proportions ever so slightly; just enough to create this blocky feel that is beautifully composed from panel to panel. Jason Gorder's inks are confident and hold Walker's lines together like a balloon waiting to explode. And not to be forgotten, colourist Frank Martin gives every image a nice glow. All in all, a very pleasing book to look at.
More than anything though, I think I love Hyperion's role in this book. I absolutely loathe Superman. Hyperion's anti-Superman persona is just what the Marvel Universe needs. A big time villain who is virtually unstoppable. When you think about it, Superman would make the perfect villain. So, Hyperion trades blows with the Juggernaut and lays a pretty good beating on the entire team. And well, it was fun to watch!
In the end they subdue this marauding menace, but not without us getting a chance to see Ghost partially remove his mask to give Moonstone mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Absolutely priceless!
I am incredibly interested to see where this team goes next. Pick up the Thunderbolts friends, it's probably the best book you're not reading!
