Rhodes continues on his path of saving Dr. Glenda Sandoval from a mercenary organization in Aqiria.
Leonardo Manco's heavy lines and busy environments really suit this book nicely. He seems to draw every speck of dust! And writer Greg Pak has a nice handle on Jim Rhodes as War Machine.
There are lots of political vibes to this book. Some which parallel the world we live in and others which reflect the Marvel Universe. Both together fill me with a sense of hopelessness in that we have this lone hero (War Machine) who continues to struggle against countless odds and the political structures themselves. All the while, putting his personal health to the side.
War Machine's interactions with Ares during the last half of the book were entertaining. Ares perception of War Machine is an interesting angle to consider. I especially enjoyed the line where Ares is going on and on about how Rhodes can't stop him, and then War Machine hits him over the head with a tank and says, "No. But it might shut you up for ten seconds." AWESOME line!
A good book with a brand new twist introduced at the end. We'll see if this new twist is the downfall of the book or if they can make it work....
