Chaos War #1 may be what Marvel aspires to when it comes to publishing big events, but it is not what I would consider to be even remotely a good story. This issue I think testifies to the little regard that marvel has for the reading public. It has taken decent writers and forced them to come up with a half-baked concept and a painful execution. The art alone is so terrible; meeting a deadline is no excuse to short change the readers of what could have been a decent start to what Marvel would make us believe is their new direction for 2011. Every panel has minimal labor put into it; a single figure is decently drawn, but all the background it seems is sketched by an elementary kid, and not a good one at that. The story suffers in the failed attempts at humor where the writers are trying to lighten the mood. The heroes are not in the moment; they seem to be reluctant draftees to an ill defined mission. Putting gods and supergods with superheroes will not solve the problem of a bad premise and a terrible execution.
