Batman Grows Up

Miller does a great job in reinterpreting the Batman mythos in a mature and refreshing manner. The writing excels and makes this graphic novel a unique treasure. I'm not a great fan of the art work and can think of many other artists that would have made this contribution to the Batman adventures a great work of art. Again, the strength of this title is the writing... and what writing we have been treated to!

I'm especially impressed by the treatment of James Gordon and his infidelity towards his pregnant wife. Miller has taken the high road here, with a clear message and realistic characterization that makes the reader aware of the moral implications and what is the right way to account for oneself under those circumstances. Miller is treating us all as mature audience, not only in the violence that is inevitable in a Batman story, but also in the way relationships are handled.

This sure has made an impression on the Batman comics and all other comics that have come after. Great work Miller.

I love this story. It's one of my all time favorites but not only for the gritty story, but also for the art. Mazzucchellii and Lewis (colorist) really treat us to something new and exciting!
