Batman's Choice (Spoiler Alert)

Great art, great plotting, great pacing, great dialog, I loved this three part mini-series. Some of you have criticized the cartoonish quality of Kevin Smith's depiction of the Joker. I have to disagree in that I found it a perfect interpretation considering The Joker's insanity.

Spoiler Alert: This three part mini-series comes to a concluding climax with Bats having to make a life and death decision. Does he save Jokers life or does he take Onomatopoeia off the streets? Of course we all know Batman will take the high road, as unrealistic as that is. Commissioner Gordon tries to convince Bats to let The Joker go and save the world from the unnecessary grief of another criminal psychopath. I had to agree with Gordon.

This brings up another question. Who's more insane, the Joker or the Batman? Both suffered trauma that changed their lives. Each dealt with that trauma differently. Both are living on the extreme edge. But would a sane pragmatic person have made the same choice as the Batman?

The Joker makes it to the hospital recovering from his injuries. They have him on anti-psychotic medication. Bats visits the Joker to talk some sense into the man while he has some semblance of sanity. Of course we all know the futility of that effort. In the processes we do see just how screwed-up the Joker really is.

The final few pages show Onomatopoeia coming home and being greeted by his family. The scene is surreal and ominous.

All in all a great conclusion to a great mini-series!
