We are treated to yet another beautiful retelling of an ancient Asgardian tale thanks to the Loki mini-series.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa tells this story as one might narrate the Lord of the Rings. The omniscient narrator walks us through the story of Balder and his tragic death thanks to the trickery of Loki. Aguirre-Sacasa gives the story its ancient, mystical beauty, while still allowing the main idea to be accessible to all despite their Norse mythology background.
Sebastian Fiumara's pencils lack detail, which I believe was the intention. This was probably intended to allow the images to seem more dream like. While I thought his artwork was adequate, I didn't feel as though it furthered the actual story itself.
The storytelling in this issue is so strong that I intend to read it to my class.
