Issue ten probably represents the strongest issue of this series to date. It was chalk full of surprises and blasts from the past!
Writer, Scott Snyder continues to prove how masterful he is at creating a layered tale. One of the most obvious strengths of Snyder as a writer is his courage to leave gaps in his storylines, only to investigate them later on. For many writers, this comes across as gaping holes in the plot. For Snyder, these holes come across more as well planned cliff hangers!
This becomes glaringly evident as Hattie Hargrove makes her return after being seemingly disposed of early in the series by our leading lady, Pearl Jones. Hattie has seemingly been kidnapped by the older order of vampire. Systematically, they subject her to various injections hoping to find the one which will kill her new species of Nosfaratu. It only stands to tell that Hattie puts up with this for a short period of time before she escapes, looking to exact revenge on Pearl Jones.
This book showcases both Pearl Jones and Hattie Hargrove in all of their slaughter house glory. It is only a matter of time before these two killers' paths cross!
Mateus Santolouco makes a seamless transition as the new artist on this issue. His style is very reminiscent of Rafael Albuqueraue's.
If this issue is any indication of what is to come, readers of American Vampire are in for a real treat!
