WOW!!! Not only was this the best intallment of the three books so far from this mini series. It was the best Umbrella Academy book to date. It was packed with so much awesomeness that I don't even know how review it, because there is no way that I could do it justice.
Gerard Way might be the new kid on the block, but he has great style. I love the way he sets up his stories. And it goes without saying that Gabriel Ba is one of the most talented illustrators in the world. Together they make a fantastic team.
This issue explores the mysterious past of Number Five. And what a past it is. Just when I was starting to think that the comic book world was running out of fresh ideas we get this. And the no holds barred way of presenting it just doubles the effectiveness.
Not only does the walk down memory lane tell us about Number Five, but it reveals a little bit about Hazel and Cha Cha; the two maniacs chasing Number Five.
The dream sequence where Seance meets God tickled my post modern tastebuds. And the ad on the back of the book just helps wrap up the total sell of this series. This wasn't just the best read of the week. I'd call this the best read of 2009 to date.
Word of caution. If you are interested in starting this series, it would definitely be easier to understand if you picked up the back issues. It is relatively new so it shouldn't be too hard. But it definitely helps with the overall understanding. Of all the comics I own, this is the series I am happiest that I own.
