I actually skipped out on the first issue from this series because I absolutely hate this character! I am/was however, enamoured with the new Wolverine series and the sub sequential arc, "Wolverine Goes to Hell." When I found out that the Dark Wolverine series was going to address part of this story, I knew I had to suck it up and buy the book.
Low and behold, the story was pretty good! Daniel Way and Marjorie Liu really do a nice job of creating a lot of sexual tension between Daken and Mystique. In fact, that pretty much sums up the whole book.
One beef I had; and to be frank, have always had, was the way Daken was drawn. Can nobody draw this character to look cool? Is one of his mutant powers that his hair only grows in a mohawk? No matter whom the artist is, Daken always comes across looking like my creepy uncle. He just looks "dirty." They show him at the opera, but I am pretty sure they wouldn't let somebody who looks like they just walked off the set of the Jerry Springer show in! Come on artistic teams, let’s clean this character up.
The ending of the story looks like it could mean good things for Wolverine (for the time being.) Daken might even decide to go and help the old man out now!
I guess I'll have to pick up the reprint of issue two because this book was much better than I anticipated.
