The first issue of Blackest Night is just as it should be. It opens with a celebration of lost hero's and their sacrifices for the greater good. Then it turns and gives you a glimpse of the horror that is to come. Hero's come to term with the loss of their friends and their grief sets the stage for hearts and souls to be shattered. A fallen Hero's grave is violated. The Flash is faced with the loss of all those who have fallen while he has been gone.
With the stage set evil steps to center stage and Hero's fall. Friends and loved ones are being summoned to join the Black. Fallen hero's are back from the dead with one goal. Put out the Green Lantern's light and bring their friends over to the Black.
The art is top notch. The story is compelling and is shaping Blackest Night to be one of those essential comic book reads.
