Canadian Conspiracy!

What kind of Canadian would I be if I didn't write a review for the Alpha Flight addition to the "Fear Itself" storyline?

I try not to say too much about Canada's premiere super team, as I'm sure most people would just associate my love for them with my nationality. I don't think that is the case, but I will never know, will I? Needless to say, I've always enjoyed the team.

As a longtime Flight fan, I was tickled to see the original team members resurrected from the dead for this issue. None of their replacements ever really help up to the original team's legacy. Of course, there was one notable absence in issue one...Puck! Not to worry though, the Canuck half pint saves the day here in book two! And not only does he preform, he references his time in Hell, which is a rare continuity connection to a recent Wolverine storyline. Well played Mr. Van Lente and Mr. Pak.

Van Lente and Pak do a wonderful job of scripting this story. I found myself quickly turning the pages to see what happened next. A true sign of a quality book.

The story revolves around a conspiracy within the Canadian government to take down Alpha Flight. There are many references to Canada to be found in this read, and never once did I feel as though an outsider was poorly writing about my beloved homeland. One by one Northstar is able to help free some of the captured members of Alpha Flight. The speedster needs to be quick however, because the new Unity party have a secret weapon that is slowly turning their members agains them and Aurora looks to be next.

With eight issue scheduled for this Fear Itself mini, I think regular fans and new ones alike are in for a real treat. Maybe even the gem of the entire story arc itself. All I hope is that this is just the beginning of comic fans being treated to Alpha Flight. I think they could play a very entertaining role in the Marvel Universe if given the chance.
