This issue marks the conclusion of Chapter Two in Project Superpowers. Are we any where near understanding how the Urn has transformed these Golden Age heroes into today’s demi-gods? It’s a good question to ask after many issues since the beginning of this epic story by the likes of Alex Ross and the Dynamite creative family. I think I get it, but at the gut level, not the conscious level required to explain it satisfactorily. I think the complexity of having so many characters with their own issues and baggage and so many spin-off titles is kind of overwhelming for us mortals. But there is a satisfaction reached at the gut level that brings warmth towards these neglected characters as their potential is realized in this franchise. I have no complaints for the fact that I may have to read all the issues again while I wait for Chapter Three to come around in 2011. I actually look forward to revisit all the characters again. Having said this, I believe we are witnessing the birth of a master stroke from Ross and company in that they have recreated the Marvel type universe within a couple of years with a coherence and depth that has no equal in the comic industry today. Marvel and DC have taken decades to get to the point that Dynamite Entertainment has brought this franchise and the comic readers to in two years. My hat is off to the creative team for their accomplishment.
