I'm going to start off by saying that I am incredibly biased when it comes to Illyana Rasputin as the Dark Child. I have always been head over heels for the idea of her as ruler of Limbo. When her character reappeared in the New X-Men storyline, I was ecstatic. I just love this tortured soul.
X-Infernus was good. Not the best read of the week, but exactly what I was expecting. Illyana, S'ym and N'astirh cut a bloody path through seas of demons trying to find out who has taken her Soulsword and Bloodstone Amulet.
An interesting scene has Mephisto, Satannish, Hela, Dormammu and Belasco's daughter, Witchfire engaging in a round table discussion to decide the fate of the new ruler of Limbo, Magik. Of course, this is just a deeper plan for Witchfire to oust Ilyana from power in Limbo. She has managed to take possession of Bloodstone Amulet somehow, which will obviously become a huge bargaining tool later.
Meanwhile on Earth, Kurt begins to experience the full extent of Pixie's powers. When he asks to talk about Pixie's Soul Dagger things get bad. Not only does she have the dagger, but somehow she also summons Rasputin’s Soulsword. And right behind it comes the Dark Child, stepping out of one of her signature teleportation discs. Should be tonnes of fun watching what kind of havoc Magik wreaks on Earth!
My lone complaint was Peter Rasputin's tantrum at the beginning of the book. So what, now he is finally broken up over the disappearance of his baby sister? Way too contrived just to fit the book for my liking.
C.B. Cebulski did a nice job with the writing. The story flowed very nicely. And Giuseppe Camuncoli did good work on pencils. His splash pages were exceptionally well done.
I'm really looking forward to the next book. I hope Illyana is here to stay!
