A couple years ago, I had the good fortune to meet writer
Dan Jolley, sitting all by himself at a local convention. I took a little time to chat with him, and he began to tell me about some of his writings exploits. Very much a likeable guy, and someone if you ever get a chance to talk with at a con, you won't be disappointed.
I remembered he was responsible for writing the adventures of the newest
Firestorm,
Jason Rusch. I had
NEVER bought a copy of the book, nor did I have any desire to read any of the Jolley books, because I was such a die-hard
Ronnie Raymond fan. At the con, I located some issues of Jolley's run for about .50 cents each and Dan gladly signed them all for me. Fast forward to tonight. I'm digging through a couple short comic boxes and find my Jolley-signed
Firestorm #1 and decide to read it.
I'm
really glad I did.
The characterization is just...wow,
top notch. He makes Jason's character identifiable and easy to relate to. The artwork flowed very nicely, and while Firestorm doesn't appear until the last couple pages of the book, it was enough to hook me into reading the first 10 issues of this run. This was quite honestly surprisingly welcome in a series I was totally against reading. If you want some solid writing and some engaging stories, check out at
LEAST the first 6 issues of this run.
