Hot off the heels of THANOS IMPERATIVE and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY,
ANNIHILATORS #1 represents another adventurous look inside the COSMIC MARVEL UNIVERSE.
Think
"THE EXPENDABLES" meets
"STAR TREK".The new Annihilators team (featuring
Silver Surfer, Beta Ray Bill, Ronan, Gladiator and Quasar) meet with a Galadorian SpaceKnight named
Ikon to discuss their place in the universe, when they are called into action to investigate a disturbance that could involve the return of the Dire Wraiths, (whom long time Marvel readers will remember were featured in the ROM title back in the 1970's and 80's.)
While I bought this title because of the Silver Surfer and Beta Ray Bill appearances, I have to say that some of the characters that I found the least engaging (like Ronan and Quasar) were now catching my eye as a reader. Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning are notorious for this. Looking back at previous titles even so far back as DC's
LEGION LOST series, I'm amazed at how the team of "DNA" are able to take second string background noise of characters, and make them steal the show. They did it with ROCKET RACCOON and GROOT (who incidentally have a very fun back-up story) and I have no doubt they'll do it in this title as well. (Plus collector's can enjoy a 1:10 variant cover featuring those very two former GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY as well)
The downside? I miss StarLord. I miss Nova. Honestly, I even miss Thanos. The characterization of these Marvel Mainstays were so powerful that I think they overshadow THESE more cosmic heroes featured in ANNIHILATORS.
Also, these are some bad-ASS characters, so how interesting can a Justice League be with all Supermans on the team? I honestly don't know, but I'll be along for the ride.
So grab your Infinity Gems, slide on your Quantum Bands and call forth a hammer forged in Asgard before you read ANNIHILATORS #1. AND then get ready to go back and read ALL these other great DnA tales from the past few years. Or I just might have to Ultimatly Nullify you.
You can find biographical information on this comic (as well as pretty much ANY comic in existance on ComicCollectorLive.com) simply by typing ANNIHILATORS in the library search. You can also buy copies of both the regular edition as well as the variant from some of our awesome CCL Super Sellers.
Enjoy!
