IDW's latest issue in the ongoing series of
TRANSFORMERS comics has been a LONG time coming.
Following Transformers comic book continuity has been about as simple as explaining quantum physics to a chinchilla for years now, but with the upcoming universe-defining crossover "CHAOS", IDW (
and at least this comic reader and collector) can look forward to at least the potential to some cohesiveness. With this issue, TRANSFORMERS will be published twice a month, leading into
TRANSFORMERS #125...which gives us some idea that they are making an effort to combining universe continuity much like they did with the G.I.JOE series.
In
Transformers #21, Hot Rod and many long-thought deceased Autobots return home with the Autobot Matrix of Leadership to inform Optimus Prime that Cybertron appears to be inhabitable again...and Galvatron has assesmbled an army there (As seen in IDW's "
HEART OF DARKNESS" limited series). And so, Prime gathers most of the Autobots and heads for home. There's also a back-up story featuring the Earthbound Autobots and Megatron that is featured on the 1:10 variant cover to the book.
I've personally followed Transformers mythology through MARVEL, DREAMWAVE and now IDW, and I'm excited about the direction. IDW's initial Transformers limited series were less than stellar, but this ongoing series has been enjoyable beyond belief. In fact, almost anything from
ALL HAIL MEGATRON on has been at the top of my list. One of these days, maybe I'll finally complete all my IDW TRANSFORMERS variants for my collection, but until then, I'm finally enjoying doing what all comics are meant for: READING.
So roll out to ComicCollectorLive.com where you can see all the variant covers to this book and get ready for an interesting summer...one that might just transform your comic collection!
