The quote at the top from Warren Ellis says, "If there have to be superhero comics, then I want them to be David Yurkovich's..." To that I say, "If there were only David Yurkovich's superhero comics, I wouldn't be reading comics." This has the absurdness of heroes and villians of the Tick without any of the funny. Oh, it tries to be cute and amusing [eg - the heroes have a lot of down time because there's not much crime in Philly (come on!) so they snack a lot], but it's just not. This seems to be a collection of mini comics and/or self-published issues and for the most part it all flows together. The 'Stamp Collector' (he's a villian) storyline is actually very well done and engaging. Unfortunately, there are some completely forgotten plotlines (Uhm, folks, what happened to the lightning guy wondering around the city?) and some random short stories thrown in (didn't need the suicidal Santa at all, thanks). For all the praise this book received from creators and reviewers I respect, this just wasn't very good.
