EXPLOSIVE!

This Trade Paperback was released a couple years, but I got out the series and read it over the weekend.

Captain Atom's had a rough go. He's a character acquired by DC from the Charlton line of comics, and even with powers that make him one of the most powerful beings in the DCU, he's still in the shadows of the big guys, like Superman and Batman. He considers himself to be, for all intents and purposes, not a person, but a living weapon.

In this series, Atom is transported to the WILDSTORM Universe, thanks to the explosion that destroyed the large Kryptonite meteor that contained Supergirl back in Superman/Batman #6. A fragment of Void is embedded in his body, and Atom becomes a ticking time bomb that characters like Grifter, Mr. Majestic and the Authority have to figure out what to do in order to save their universe.

The good: We get to see Captain Atom as he's meant to be written, a good soldier with morals. (Think Captain America meets Firestorm). And he's got that awesome gold look from the "Kingdom Come" series.

The bad: The story wraps up very quickly using a neat red bow, with the inevitable eventually taking place. A preditable finale, but a heck of a ride to get to the end.
