Secret History #12 continues the long and satisfying story of what would happen if four magical eternal beings played their games of dominion throughout human history. In this issue we are in 1942 in the middle of the Second World War where the Allied forces are fighting in the Pacific and in the middle of Europe against the Axis forces.
Interweaved into this story is the experimentation and extermination that the Nazi’s put so many humans that opposed or where simply of the wrong ethnicity (Jew or Gypsy). The battle of Midway and the creation of the Atom bomb are also part of this history.
The series has a very straight narration that makes it a breeze to follow. The pacing is probably a bit too fast, but then again we have covered so much of human history in these last twelve books that the fast pacing is only understandable. We are at what can be said to be the mid-point of this series, so it is save to assume that as we get closer to our present we will dwell a bit longer in each time period and explore the events more fully within the context of the four magical forces that constitute the thrust of this story.
I like the European comics’ culture and what thru translations they contribute to the world comics’ movement as a whole.
