About Fantastic Comics (1939)

Fantastic Comics was an anthology title, gathering roughly 10 regular features plus a text story into every issue. The stories covered various genres, including jungle action, space adventure, mystical themes, war adventure, sword and sorcery, and comedy.

This title was the focus of the first issue of the 'Next Issue Project' spearheaded by Erik Larsen, then of Image. The intent was to resurrect Golden Age material and put it in the hands of modern creators with modern sensibilities. The one-shot 'Fantastic Comics #24', published by Image, took place at a time of hightened interest in long-forgotten Golden Age properties, now all in the public domain. A simultaneous effort by Dynamite Entertainment at the time was Project Super-Powers, that revived several Golden Age heroes.
