This story is coming together quite nicely.
If you read my review of issue #1, you can basically copy/paste that one into this review.
This issue was just as fun to read (maybe more so) than the first. The interaction between Machine Man and Jocasta is great. This issue packs another great punch as it reveals, little by little, that the Zombies actually have a master plan to quench their insatiable hunger for flesh.
Van Lente has given the Marvel Zombies franchise a great new protagonist in Machine Man. I think this is the first time that we've had "the hero" be theoretically invulnerable to the Zombies virus. The question of robots has never really been brought up in the previous series. This breaths new life into the whole franchise. It's a fresh angle that gives this "threequel" its own merit. Considering this volume's involvement with main Marvel continuity, I'm enjoying the fact that I don't feel like the 616 is doomed to face the same fate as the Marvel Zombieverse did. And it's also great to get the feeling that Machine Man is the best (and possibly the only) man for the job. The cover to issue #1 was very appropriate in that sense as I can see alot of parallels between Aaron Stacks and Ashley J. Williams from the
Army of Darkness movie (which was also a "threequel"... hmmm). I Love it!
Kev Walker does a great job again. I find his Zombies alot creepier and scarier than Sean Phillips' and he doesn't skimp out on the gore either.
There's not much else to add, I mean if you're a fan of the series and you liked the first issue of this third installment, you'll love this issue as well. It is definitely not a let down in any way.
We also get to see a fire being lit under Machine Man's butt (in the figurative sense).
4 out of 5 stars from me.
