Weather looking bad again!!!

Starting to wish they'd bounce the 3 games to Monday night to let the mess clear out. It's feeling rather cold and windy this morning with lots of clouds and a feeling like it could start raining any minute and the system isn't even here yet.

Quote:
Montez Sweat is currently 3rd in sacks for the NFL with 3

Daron Payne is 2nd in Tackles for loss with 4

M Sweat is tied for 3rd in Tackles for loss with 3

M Sweat is 1st in forcing fumbles with 2

E Forbes tied for 3rd in pass breakups with 3

I'm not sure a monsoon bowl again is going to help anyone's stats out so they may drop by next week. Crying A sloppy wet running mess that's no fun to watch is starting to sound likely. Wet ball turnovers, and two passing teams that aren't really built to be ground and pound it out types. I guess the tie breaker should be we have MVP punting!!!! It's like they say, every tropical cyclone has a silver lining. Sick

Commanders vs Bills Friday Injury Report: Logan Thomas is the only player ruled out for Sunday’s game

So our best tight end has to miss a game but the player that hit him illegally gets to play?? This oversight in the rules leaves a really bad taste in the mouth. Sick

Let's see how the Bears are doing, things have to be improving.

Quote:
According to ABC7 in Chicago, sometime on Wednesday night Solider Field was broken into, with thieves tearing down a security fence and driving away with over $100,000 in lawnmowers and Gator utility vehicles used by the grounds crew to tend to the field.

I would think there should be some secret FBI footage around that could help solve this case quickly. Don't Tell Anyone

What a dreary day.

The creep that gave the cheapshot illegal hit to Logan Thomas got fined less tha $20,000, barely more than he was fined for the cheap shot the week before knocking the other guy out a week. 2 cheapshot illegal hits, 2 players forced to miss a game and a piece each, total out of pocket, $34,000 and change. That sounds like a bargain. You can drastically effect the results of 4 games by knocking out players for less than Deshaun Watson gets fined for touching a ref.
Quote:
According to NFL Network via Dov Kleiman, the NFL has fined Watson $35,513 for his penalties against the Steelers.

which is pocket change to him compared to what he's making.

In other news, the Skins activated a fullback off the practice squad to take LT's place so it appears the game plan may be run heavy in the rain and slop tomorrow.

Looks like I got 2 out of 3 NFC East games right so far.

We lose to a SuperBowl contender.
Cowboys lose to a team we BEAT!!!!
Giants lost again and are one game behind us.
1 more to go with the Eagles having a chance to lose tomorrow and again next week!!!

Every cloud has the Cowboys giving you a silver lining unless you're a Bronco fan. 70-20????? Really???

It appears Hulu is useless. 3 weeks in a row I've gone to the game and hit the button to record. Then I check the schedule to see the red dot showing it's set to record. I look this morning so I could see the 3rd possession I missed when the gang of kids came in the store. Nothing. No recordings in the my stuff folder except for 2 games from last year, Smack Down and RAW. It also had a game I recorded week 1 to come back and watch but already deleted. I'm assuming if it had space to come back and record another NFL Network showing of a game I had already deleted it should have had space available. It's looking like a waste of money to have turned on.

Apparently the Bears got blown out so bad the tv stopped showing the game in the 2nd quarter. That's making week 5 look like it's going to be SPECIAL. They put up one of the most boring games of the year last year when they played. Dancing

Looks like this week was loaded with huge stinkers and we still have 2 more games to go!!!! Daydreaming
LETS GO BUCS!!!

HULU just downgraded to basic $7.99 with no ads or Disney. It would have renewed on the 28th.

This has been a really slow news week so far.

I really don't have a clue what to expect Sunday at this point.

Option A: Bemy is a genius and has intentionally held back whatever the offense is going to be to be able to surprise the Eagles with stuff they haven't seen and weren't expecting.

Option B: He's not a complete idiot and can see that we're on pace for record level sacks and getting Sam killed. Knowing that he's going to make some changes this week to who plays where on the line and what plays he calls so there's more screens and short pass options or maybe some 12 personnel sets with 2 tight ends to help out the tackles.

Option C: Run the ball more but even though that worked last year against the Eagles, it also took 4 or 5 turnovers to do the trick mixed in. Unfortunately on paper the Eagles made a lot of changes to get better against the run but downgraded the passing defense to do so so now they're 27th in the league against the pass. It feels like trying to run a lot more would be playing into their strength this year.

Option D: Do nothing different and figure this week everything improves just a little from the experience of the last 3 weeks.

I really can't tell whether we should expect to win 21-17 or 35 - 17. I've got that feeling a defensive score will be mixed in whatever the final victory total is. On the Phone

I wouldn't be mad to see them try Paul at LG, the rookie at center, and any switch on the right side that gets Wylie out of the tackle spot.
I've watched plenty of clips this week of the LG getting abused right back into Sam's face so he couldn't step up and with the center not looking much better while the tackles allowed outside pressure leaving no escape route. If we have to suck, lets suck with our rookies getting their learn on instead of other peoples castoffs showing why their teams let them walk.

Quote:
We've run 182 offensive plays
We've only run 20 plays from under centre (11% - league average last year was 32.5, KC ran at 21%)
Of those 20 under centre, we've had 16 rushes, so an 80% rushing rate when under centre, league average 69% (71 yards, 4 First downs, 1 2PT conv, one negative play when running down the clock)
And we've had 4 passes (2/4, 39 yards, 2 First Downs, INT)

It seems pretty clear, If Sam's under center it's most likely a run. I expect that to change this week.

This might work better if they'd replace the red pad with a 2 by 4 in practice. That barely looks like he can even feel it. Love taps.

Quote:
Lowest QB rating allowed by NFL rookies through Week 3 (min. 10 targets):

1. Emmanuel Forbes, Commanders (61.1)
2. Christian Izien, Bucs (76.0)
3. Deonte Banks, Giants (77.1)
4. Brian Branch, Lions (83.2)
5. Devon Witherspoon, Seahawks (84.7)
6. Christian Gonzalez, Pats (87.6)

The numbers may be there but I'm not feeling it yet on the field. Darrel Green made a statement in his first game running down Dorset. It's time to show up in the highlights as well as the quiet stats. I suspect Hurtz is just the qb to feed you that big highlight reel moment. Let's get it over this week and not have to wait around for Dak.

That was really much more of a headache than needed.

It appears that for some reason Amazon is holding the Redskins Bears game hostage again next Thursday night. You would think after last years stinker they wouldn't touch that matchup again for a decade or more. D'oh

I needed an ink cartridge so I tried the free trial on business prime and got 1 day shipping but the almost $200 a year charge was way too high to keep it and it apparently doesn't include tv with it so I cancelled that this morning which of course left it intact until the 28th on the free trial period even after cancelling.

I go the firetv and I can't find any way to sign up for the service there, it just keeps booting me back to the PC to amazon.com/firetvprime to do anything.

Once I'm there, of course it says I can't sign up since I have a business account. Wall

I actually had to cancel the business account which took like 3 extra pages to click thru repeating that I knew it would be gone forever and couldn't be reopened. Whew!

Once I did that and went back to amazon.com/firetvprime again, this time it let me sign up for a free trial.

So now I should be able to see what NOONE is thinking will be the best game of the year Thursday!!!!!! Rolling on the Floor

In the meantime, lets see what's going on in season 3 of the BOYS. Anything else out there worth checking out before the free trail ends?? I really don't expect there to be 4 games a month worth the $14.99 to keep it on after the free trial ends.

How's Chase doing?

I didn't forsee our mvp of a punter being a problem this year but apparently we're bad at covering them and returning them now.
Quote:
- a 49-yard punt with a 7-yard return (his best effort of the day)
- a 38-yard punt that was fair caught (his second-best effort of the day)
- a 43-yard line drive that was returned for 11 yards (so 32-yard net)
- a 54-yard punt where he outkicked his coverage. It was returned for 20 yards (a 34-yard net)
- and finally, that 29-yard stinker.

He didn't put a single punt inside their 20, and their starting position after punts was the 37 yard line.

The defense was allegedly going to be elite, has come out of the gates slow and with problems to start the year again for the 4th year in a row. The rookie corner was particularly disappointing yesterday. The next Darrel Green, not a chance. Wall

The offensive line still looks horrible but the play calling and Sam's ability to wiggle helped some.

It's still looking like we're right on pace for the 13-4 season I was expecting. Hopefully the defense and punting figures itself out over the next few weeks like normal for a strong run coming up. I still don't see any hope for this O-Line as is but maybe the play calling can find a way to work around it.

PLAYERS MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS:

Washington #Commanders
first-round selection CB Emmanuel Forbes has DEACTIVATED his Twitter account after struggling immensely Sunday where he was seen struggling emotionally on the sideline.

There were a lot of extremely disgusting things that were being said about him and his family. Including death threats.
Unacceptable.

He had a bad game as a rookie playing only his 4th game, was left on an island by the DC who didn't help him out or switch him off a player that had a huge size advantage and is allegedly really good at his job. Nothing there screams send death threats. I wish he was a right or left tackle but he's here now and hopefully he'll develop into something as he gets experience and maybe a little meat on those bones from NFL level training/support. It sounded like he should have had over the top safety help rotated to him which is a coaching fault.

One surprise: Jaquan Brisker was added to the injury report Wednesday. The Bears listed Brisker as questionable to play the Commanders due to a hamstring injury.

Wide receiver Chase Claypool will also miss the Commanders game for the injury caused to head coach Matt Eberflus’ ego last week. The Bears could have Teven Jenkins back for the first time all season in Week 5.

If Brisker cannot play, the only starter still playing in the secondary in Week 5 will be rookie Tyrique Stevenson. That could spell trouble for a defense about to face offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

The New York Giants lost two players on one play during their 24-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night.

Center John Michael Schmitz and tight end Daniel Bellinger did not return after a fourth-and-1 rush attempt during the Giants' opening drive of the game. That rush play was the "tush push," which has been made famous by Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Quote:
PHILADELPHIA – The NFL has served notice to the Philadelphia Eagles about their infamous quarterback sneak. Center Jason Kelce revealed during his ‘New Heights’ podcast that the league sent a letter alerting Philly that it is lining up offsides on the contentious "Tush Push," or "Brotherly Shove" as it's becoming known in Philadelphia.

No news yet on what's in the letter but you have to assume at least the refs will be watching the play more closely. It appears to be a play destined to have high risk to it to both teams as seen by the Giants game.

BREAKING: Patriots' CB Christian Gonzalez expected to miss rest of season with torn labrum

Zachary Neel
October 4, 2023 7:07 am PT
One of the major fears about the shoulder injury suffered by New England Patriots cornerback and former Oregon Duck Christian Gonzalez has apparently turned out to be true.

According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport, Gonzalez is expected to miss the rest of his rookie year with a torn labrum and dislocated shoulder he suffered in the Week 4 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

No defensive rookie of the year award possible now. We took toothpick 1 pick ahead of Gonzalez which many have been complaining about and seemed to make Belichick really happy at the time. We're still waiting for our 1st TOOTHPICK SIX but at least he's still on the field.

I'm not real thrilled with any of this years draft so far.
1st rounder just got hung out to dry by the DC and looked like a rookie
2nd rounder keeps ending up inactive
Quote:
Martin is one of three second-round picks from this year’s draft yet to play an offensive or defensive snap. One player is on injured reserve. The other, Will Levis, is a quarterback.

3rd rounder back up center hasn't seen the field yet
4th rounder hasn't seen the field yet
5th rounder hasn't seen the field yet
6th rounder has 3 carries for 7 yards and keeps getting inactive status
7th rounder I'm not sure he's seen the field yet either

I'd happily trade all 7 right now for a starting caliber left or right tackle.

Some random thoughts on how to fix the ship.

Chase Young, he's supposed to be a generational talent, release the beast!! Bring in another lineman to play his gap or maybe one of the linebackers like Davis that's great at pash rushing and run support and let Chase roam and use his talent to make the big plays start to happen. I can just see the next 5 to 10 years now as he leaves here to a team that can build around his best skillset letting him have a HOF type career for them that we missed out on with the current inflexible DC trying to use a superstar potential type as gap control. Wall

The secondary is a mess. Bench the 1st rounder for now until he bulks up and works on tackling. Move St Juste to his spot and bring the 2nd round rookie in to play slot which is what he played mostly in college. He can't possibly suck worse than what we're getting from the 1st rounder. It's also time to bench Barton for Hudson, maybe even start working the All Pro Safety onto the field some as well instead of being special teams only.

Offensive line, I'd gut the middle and replace them with the rookies/sophomores. If you're going to suck, at least suck with players that have upside potential and can benefit from playing time. There's some real beefy HOG types there that may actually improve the run blocking and hopefully will not get pushed back into Sam's face as quickly.

I'm at the same place I was about a year ago wanting the coaches gone. Make EB interim HC in full with an option for the job next year if it looks like he can handle it. At this point just about anyone to take over as DC that's got enough sense to make some adjustments to personnel and scheme. Four years and the same results each year roughly. Waiting proves nothing at this point. I still fully expect them to flip script again, pummel the Falcons and make an excuse for saddling us with Ron thru to the end just like that wasted Bears win last year kept Dan from having to replace him and fork over money he didn't want to spend.

While Washington as a team has allowed 29 sacks through the first five games this season, Cosmi has adjusted to right guard quite well. Per Pro Football Focus, Cosmi has the most pass-blocking snaps in the NFL (234) without allowing a sack.

So we have the best right guard at pass protection this year beside the worst Right Tackle.

The RT is allegedly better as a guard. The RG has played RT before. Seems like having them switch so we could maybe be okay at both spots instead of terrible at one and great at the other would make sense.

Option B: replace the RT with Lucas who really can't be worse I suspect.

Option C: Move Cosmi to RT and bring in one of the rookies to play RG.

Option D: move the worthless RT to LG and move Cosmi or bring in Lucas to play RT.
(There are some other variations available here.)

With Charles at LG I think it's about time to give Paul some chances. The only good thing to say about Charles so far is he hasn't hurt himself yet this year but there's still plenty of time.

Choice I expect from Ron, do nothing and wait for an injury to force your hand!!

If only we had an owner that appeared to be paying attention to what's going on in the field and appearing to be sober enough to do something about it. I don't want him dictating who plays but some coaching heads deserve to roll by now. Hopefully the loss in Atlanta will force his hand. Tradition though says we're about to go on a winning streak to get our hopes up just to end up middle of the pack again. They have enough offense to get to the promised land but now they seem to have a disaster at defense and no willingness to change the few things on offense that may yield better results this year like 4 out of 5 lineman being worthless.
