As a former professional chef and current private chef Turkey Day is my time to shine!
I love cooking and preparing a massive feast is one of my favorite things to do so Thanksgiving is a very cool time for me. And the people who know me!
My premise today is, "What are your 5 favorite things to eat on Thanksgiving?" Aside from the main dish (Turkey, Ham, Lobster, Armadillo, et al) what sides and desserts to you yearn for?
Here are my Top 5, in no particular order.
Except for this one! #1
Mac & Cheese. Gooey, creamy pasta and cheeze! Gotta have it. Don't care if it's simply cheddar, incredible feta or gorgeous gorgonzola I will consume that head on.
Green Bean Casserole - Yeah I know, this is probably on the bottom of a lot of your lists but I dig it. When I make it especially. Fresh green beans, homemade mushroom soup and hand made fried onions. I have served this to non fans of the GBC and they have liked it, so there.
Stuffing - Sounds bland but I like to make one that zings! It's crusty on the outside and moist on the inside. My trick is to add turkey drippings to the mixture. Very flavorful. And please, DO NOT cook it inside your turkey. Aside from the obvious health risk it just comes out mushy and unpalatable. Cook it in a casserole pan.
Pickles - I'm not just talking pickled cucumbers I'm saying that all veggies are welcome. With so much heaviness in the average T-Day dinner it's nice to have a little crunch of a pickled carrot, cauliflower, celery, okra, radish, etc. to balance it out.
Can't leave out dessert! How about a
berry crisp! Cranberries, blueberries, raspberries - whatever - with a nice sweet and crunchy topping and a dollop of whipped cream! Scrumptious.
So what is it that you crave to see on the table next Thursday?
