I had read some pretty bad reviews of this book. I don't agree with them. The main focus of the hate from reviewers is that we know the kid is a machine, so why spend all issue setting that up for the big reveal. Why? Because it's fun. Sure, it's not a big, shocking reveal to the reader that our main character is a machine, but there is a lot more than that going on in this issue. This issue sets up Adam as our standard everyday popular high school student who has problems too. The story is pretty good and I look forward to more. Unfortunately, the main reason I picked this mini up was for Mike Hawthorne's art, but, overall the visuals struggle. Hawthorne uses far too thick of a line in his inking and Mike Atiyeh creates an unsightly palette of garish colors.
