God Save the President

I'll get right to the point here. I think Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba are one of my favourite contemporary teams in comics; if not my favourite. I loved the first story arc, so I have been really looking forward to the follow-up. And it did not disappoint. This book is so good that I have a hard time putting it into words. It just makes me feel.......happy! There is the perfect blend of revelations and mystery. the reader has to make inferences, but not so much so that they are disappointed when the plot comes to fruition. The book begins with a flashback scene from 17 years ago. It makes me miss Horror, who has only been referenced in the series being he has been dead since its inception. So I miss a character I've never even met! Great writing! Then if flashes forward to the present, where we find a grown version of this child-originated team. They are complacent and recouperating from their losses in the previous arc. Each of the members has his or her own personal struggles. And it is obvious that despite the fact that they are a team and a family (or sorts), they all feel as though they are on their own. I love the stylized art. it just adds to the quirkiness of the book. This series celebrates the Romantic nature behind being a super-team. It celebrates the human side of a not so human universe. I love the book, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for the answer to why they started loving comics in the first place.
