Having read and enjoyed Shrapnel: Aristela Rising, I know to expect a slow development to the story. So we all need to be patient to fully enjoy the interactions, drama and excitement that this Science Fiction story promises. The setting is Venus, circa 2250 during a savage war of independence. Samantha “Sam” Vijaya, a Solar Alliance war veteran and hero is now in charge of a strike force that will deliver what they hope to be a crushing blow to their enemy, the Solar Alliance.
It took me two days, for a variety of reasons, to complete reading this comic. That may explain why it felt a bit disjointed at times. There is a lot of comic in the prestige formatted Radical comics, well worth the $4.99 price tag.
Nick Sagan is not only telling a good story, but also selling a screen play; for all Radical properties are meant to be moved to cinematic experiences, if at all possible. That is one of their mandates.
In this issue we get more details about what demons drive Samantha “Sam” Vijaya. Like any soldier, there are many issues that need to be exposed in order to understand the motivations behind certain actions and attitudes. This is well accomplished by Nick Sagan.
The people at Concept Art House have presented an appealing comic with coloring that highlights the way we imagine off-planet habitation would look like. There is a painstaking effort to details in each panel that increases the enjoyment of this comic. This is a well executed story.
