In the absence (cancellation) of my favourite series, New X-Men, I suppose I should be thankful for a new series that
slightly resembles it. And I was a huge fan of the original new Mutant series. I have to admit though, I don't think this team should still be acting like a bunch of kids. Sam Guthrie came across as the same goofy corn poke from the eighties. What does he have to be insecure about? Lets be perfectly honest, Dani Moonstone should hit the road, she's not a damn mutant anymore!
Take a brief walk back in time to the Children of the Vault story arc, and you find a leather clad, scruffy Cannonball with swagger to spare. Likewise for Sunspot. Going from leader of the hellfire Club to taking orders like an obedient dog from Cannonball...I'm not buying it!
That said, the Legion story has been pretty good. The teddy bear idea is creative and matches well with how I interpret Legion. I also never have a problem with Magik chopping people up with her Soul Sword.
So far the stories might be a little too self contained for my liking. This usually creates the feeling that the characters are not important enough to interact with the mainstream comic universe, and readers pick up on the vibe quickly.
I'm looking forward to seeing Warlock in the next issue, he can only make this team better.
