I think Stan Lee has definitely woken up from his slumber and is showing other comic writers what can be accomplished when creating new characters. This may not be the very best comics but it is better than lots out there.
What resonates with me most is the use of a writer trying to break into the industry showing the excitement and frustration of an unpublished writer; his aspirations, dreams and hopes hanging on the critique and acceptance of others. Then we learn that his imagination are but memories held back due to some traumatic experience and others may be influenced in the same way and walk the streets like normal people not knowing of their heritage and enemies. Then you are confronted with the reality of being chased by the Hive that you write about and saved by the love of his life that is a fully aware extraterrestrial.
There is a multitude of branches to this tree of a story that leave lots to be expected from future issues. We hope the imagination of Stan Lee and Chris Roberson are up to the task.
